Posted by admin on Oct 4, 2008 under organic gardening how to

Organic gardening how to” has been getting a lot of attention in recent years. There are new grocery chains that specialize in organic foods and there are many restaurants that feature organic specialties. So, why is there so much interest and news about the organic way of doing things? The answer is simple – growing things the organic way is not only healthier for all of us, but it is also healthier for our environment.

Despite this obvious realization, very few home gardeners have embraced the idea of organic gardening. Most home gardeners know something or have heard something about the organic way of growing plants and vegetables, but most home gardeners believe this method of growing is too complicated. Stop! Put this fear to bed. “Organic gardening how to” is not complicated! Organic gardening only requires us to look around, relax, and take a deep breath.

Organic agriculture is all about finding a balance in your garden. Think about how your plants grow and survive. Plants need a few basic things to grow, such as: Sunlight, Water, Soil, Air, and Nutrients.

Healthy plants are always looking for a balance in these five basic items. Over thousands of years, plants in the wild have evolved to find a balance in these items. Likewise, certain plants have found harmony in growing together, mutually benefitting each other in their natural settings. For example, did you know that planting garlic near roses will help keep most pests away from the roses? It’s true and this concept in organic gardening is called “Companion Planting”.

When we grow plants in our garden, we need to balance, restore, and correct these conditions so that our plants may thrive. This will be the subject of this blog over the coming months. Together, we will investigate and learn how to make our own private ecosystems grow and blossom in a natural way. We would also recommend that all of you should subscribe to the Organic Gardening magazine that is posted in the upper right-hand side of this blog. This is an excellent “organic gardening how to” magazine and it will supplement the information that we will be posting on these pages.
